Function: To establish a relationship between you and your prospective funder and provide a simple outline of your ideas.
Do: Use an informal voice*, address long-term funding plans for when your grant expires, and seek the grant maker's opinion of your ideas.
*Your tone should be casual enough that you could send it to a great-aunt: be personable and develop a voice.
Do Not: Approach the grant-maker as barrier between you and funds, or overload the letter with details.
Structure:
a) Background of the organization : Who you are
b) Background of the project : The present situation
c) Description of the problem or reason for project
d) Description of the project : how you intend to solve the problem or situation or need.
